A Lime-Green and Blue Box

Lime-green flowering tobacco and helichrysums contrast beautifully with the blue scaevolas and convolvulus in this window box of cool colours.


  • 76 cm (30 in) plastic window box with drainage holes
  • Compost
  • Slow-release plant food granules


  • 5 lime-green tobacco plants
  • 2 scaevola
  • 2 Helichrysum petiolare ‘Aureum’
  • 3 Convolvulus sabatius

1: Fill the window box with compost, mixing in 3 teaspoons of plant food granules. Plant the tobacco plants along the back of the window box.

2: Plant the two scaevolas approximately 10 cm (4 in) from each end, in front of the tobacco plants.

3: Plant the two helichrysums on either side of the centre of the window box next to the scaevolas.

4: Plant two of the convolvulus in the front corners of the box and the third in the centre front. Water thoroughly and position in light shade or partial sun.

Gardener’s Tip: At the end of the season pot up the scaevolas and convolvulus. Cut 
right back and protect from frost. Plant in late spring.
